Yesterday at dinner, I ordered an antipasto of “polenta with fish from Lake Como.” The fish was served whole and our waitress was having a lot of fun watching me try to separate flesh from bones. “No. Eat it all! Even bones!” She got a good laugh out of that. ? (Varenna, Lombardy, Italy)

After we dropped Heather’s parents off at the hotel, Heather and I took the bus to Piazzale Michelangelo for a hilltop view of the Florence skyline. (Oltrarno, Tuscany, Italy)

We finished our sightseeing in Florence at the Uffizi Gallery whose collection of paintings is just as impressive as the Accademia’s collection of sculpture. (Oltrarno, Tuscany, Italy)

Today we had an early appointment at the Accademia to meet a young man named David, and saw some amazing paintings and sculpture along the way. (“Amazing” is an understatement and doesn’t begin to do justice to their collection.) (San Lorenzo District, Tuscany, Italy)

We arrived in Florence yesterday in late afternoon, due to a delayed train. (Italy is great, but they could learn a few things from the Swiss about running a train system!) Only had time to walk to the Duomo.
