What we found beneath the carpet was in really good shape. Better than I could have hoped—really nice, dark stained, heart pine floors. There was one small area of water damage, and one small area that will need patched, but otherwise in good shape. #diy #lakelife 3/3

Last week, we decided that it was time to deal with the main floor. We cut up a few areas of carpeting, and the wood below looked mostly good, so we scheduled a dumpster for this weekend.

This weekend we pulled everything up and filled the dumpster with 720 square feet of carpeting, padding, tack strip, and staples. (Oh! So many staples!) #diy #lakelife 2/3

We knew that there were wood floors under the carpet when we bought Aisling House, but we didn’t know what condition they were in. After all, a lot can happen in almost 100 years.

During our upstairs renovation, we discovered that the upstairs wood floors had been all chopped up when they installed central air conditioning years ago. The floors were beyond salvage, so we re-covered them with carpeting. #diy #lakelife 1/3

Us: Indiana.

Them: *makes a face*

Us: Where are you from?

Them: Canada.

Us: Sorry.

I imagine that we’ll be having variations of that conversation for at least the next four years. 😞

We’ve had warmer Spring-like weather the last week or so, and the ice is melting at a rapid clip. At this rate, I expect all the ice to be melted by next weekend. But nighttime temperatures are still dipping below freezing, so I’m taking full advantage and having a fire this morning. Maybe the last one of the season. #lakelife
