Had to do a little #diy for the buoy ballast. Five pounds of chain (plus other hardware) kept the buoys upright in testing. Now we’ll see if it works in production. Fingers crossed.

We’re refreshing the beach today with 2 cubic yards (1500 L) of sand. This is the “before” shot. Next steps:

10 shovel sand into trailer

20 dump trailer on beach

30 rake sand

40 GOTO 10

What we found beneath the carpet was in really good shape. Better than I could have hoped—really nice, dark stained, heart pine floors. There was one small area of water damage, and one small area that will need patched, but otherwise in good shape. #diy #lakelife 3/3

Last week, we decided that it was time to deal with the main floor. We cut up a few areas of carpeting, and the wood below looked mostly good, so we scheduled a dumpster for this weekend.

This weekend we pulled everything up and filled the dumpster with 720 square feet of carpeting, padding, tack strip, and staples. (Oh! So many staples!) #diy #lakelife 2/3

We knew that there were wood floors under the carpet when we bought Aisling House, but we didn’t know what condition they were in. After all, a lot can happen in almost 100 years.

During our upstairs renovation, we discovered that the upstairs wood floors had been all chopped up when they installed central air conditioning years ago. The floors were beyond salvage, so we re-covered them with carpeting. #diy #lakelife 1/3

Heather and I are visiting Barbados, and just had a conversation with another tourist that went like this:

Them: Where you from?

Us: Indiana.

Them: *makes a face*

Us: Where are you from?

Them: Canada.

Us: Sorry.

I imagine that we’ll be having variations of that conversation for at least the next four years. 😞

We have pelicans on our lake! Never seen that before. I think they are the American White Pelican. Maybe migrating? There must be a hundred of them. Amazing! #birds #lakelife
