Ireland 2024
Posts from our tripe to Ireland in July 2024. We were invited on this trip by our friends Jason and Beth Wagoner, who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
Today we drove to the Cliffs of Moher, via a ferry that crossed the Shannon estuary. Miraculously, the skies cleared just as we arrived and stayed clear for the couple hours that we explored the cliffs. The clouds gathered and the rain started just after we left. We got really lucky. #travel #ireland

Did I mention it’s been raining all day? #travel #ireland

Today, it’s been raining all day, so we drove the Slea Head loop on the Dingle peninsula. In addition to feeding some sheep (a highlight for Heather) we saw several “beehive” stone huts, toured the Blasket Island Centre, visited Gallarus Oratory (a highlight for me), stopped at the church ruins at Kilmalkedar, and enjoyed a lot of scenic views. #travel #ireland

Yesterday was mostly a travel day, driving from Stoneyford, County Kilkenny, to Dingle in County Kerry. It took most of the day, but were able to stop at the Rock of Cashel for a tour along the way. #travel #ireland

Last stop of the day was the a Waterford Crystal factory in Waterford. Waterford Crystal is obviously a *much* bigger operation than Jerpoint Glass, so it was interesting to compare and contrast their operations. #travel #ireland

Our next stop was Jerpoint Glass Studio, which has been hand blowing glass art, vases, and other glasswork since 1979. We were able to watch them work on some vases, and the artisans took the time to explain what there were doing at every step. It’s amazing how fast they work when we aren’t distracting them! #travel #ireland

From Kells, we went just a mile up the road to visit the Kilree monastery ruins with its round tower and high cross, which dates to the 9th century. #travel #ireland
